About Immanuel Lutheran Church
Our Mission Statement:
We are called to
Love, Serve
and
Share God’s Word
Welcome
When visiting our church, we want you to feel “welcome” and we certainly hope you will visit us again. All who desire to receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ are welcome to come forward and share in the Holy Meal of bread and wine (grape juice is also available) during the celebration of Holy Communion, which is served weekly.
History
Immanuel Lutheran Church was originally established in 1878 under the name of Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sandhem, located in what is now known as Watson. In 1941 the word Swedish was dropped from the name of the church because it seemed to have a tendency to “scare” people away from the church. It was in 1962 that Immanuel’s congregation took part in the merger of other Lutheran congregations and became affiliated with the Lutheran Church of America. In 1970 plans for a new church building in town were accepted and in April of 1971 Carlson Construction Company was given the contract to build. On January 16, 1972 at 3:00pm, the church was dedicated. In 1978 Immanuel celebrated their 100th anniversary. A picture of the original church is shown below.
